Jacob is currently the Head of Chambers at 9 Gough Chambers.
He has spent his entire professional life at 9 Gough Chambers (formerly 2 Dr Johnson's Buildings in the Temple). Having undertaken pupillage with John Foy QC and HHJ Reddihough, Jacob's practice consists wholly of personal injury and clinical negligence work.
He acts mainly for Claimants but retains a small but purposeful Defence practice. Slippers, trippers, nippers, head-injured, spiners, wheezers, whiners and rear-end shunters - Jacob has acted for all types of injured Claimants over the years; from catastrophically brain injured and spinal compromised clients to victims of clinical negligence resulting in birth accident, orthopaedic, internal and other damage.
His motto used to be "No case too big - No case too small", but in Silk and indeed previously as a Senior Junior he modified this to: "Big, Bigger and Bigger Still-oh my!" Jacob has been instructed by all the major Trade Unions in personal injury litigation and regularly acts for the most devastatingly injured Claimants. Jacob acts for victims of medical accident who trust his sympathetic, empathetic manner.
The directories note that "He adopts a cool and calm approach to all issues that are presented, retaining focus on the objectives and how best to achieve the desired outcomes." He is recognised as "a powerhouse who will leave no stone unturned to get the best possible result for a client. He is enormously energetic."
Chambers & Partners write that Jacob is a "well-respected silk with over 30 years' experience. He devotes much of his practice to claimant-focused work, and is regularly instructed in all manner of cases, ranging from the relatively modest to those of the greatest complexity. He counts a number of large trade unions among his clients. He has impressive experience in claims regarding birth injuries as well as spinal damage."
"He's extraordinarily thorough, hard-working, detail-oriented and an excellent advocate."
In short: "loved by clients" and a "human dynamo of energy, enthusiasm and drive", Jacob is "always prepared to go the extra mile". So, why not run with him?

For 20 plus years Jacob has acted principally for Claimants in clinical negligence litigation. He has also done so for Defendants. From birth accidents, to anaesthetic accidents to spinal and orthopaedic injury as well as dental and ocular negligence, Jacob has represented some of the most seriously debilitated victims of medical accidents. Known for his thoroughness and intensity of preparation in conferences, at trial and in the drafting of schedules - he is also a sympathetic and strong advocate in Court for his clients' cause. As a directory once commented "you know he won't let you down". When he isn't watching boxsets into the early hours of the morning, or writing his next unproduced screenplay, or fending off the neuroses of his family - you can be sure he is worrying about your case. In a good way.
Since his earliest days at the Bar, this has been the mainstay of Jacob's practice; from grievously injured pedestrians and spinal or head injured motorists to serious site accidents. From Union members in factories and elsewhere, to those who have suffered industrial disease; from fatal injuries and dependency claims - all manner of human misery (including his own) has enabled Jacob to offer straightforward, empathetic and sound practical advice. In court, at Trial, in conference or at Joint Settlement Meetings he remains a committed, adept and knowledgeable practitioner with 27 years of vast and varied experience. Described once in a professional directory as a 'human dynamo' - Jacob's Duracell battery isn't running down anytime soon. Unless his kids get to him first and disconnect him from the mains supply.
Jacob deals with heavy cases of the utmost severity but does so with humour and sympathy.
