Laura is a busy clinical negligence and personal injury practitioner with great attention to detail, sound judgment, good courtroom skills and positive client management. She is a well established personal injury practitioner who continues to enjoy a burgeoning practice of complex and high value work in this field. Her clinical negligence practice has expanded significantly in recent years and she enjoys this work and the challenges it presents, enormously. She cuts to the chase and provides direction in complex claims. She is sympathetic with clients but can be robust when circumstances require it.

Laura regularly lectures on personal injury and clinical negligence claims. She is a contributing editor to Kemp & Kemp: Quantum of Damages and Personal Injury Law Practice and Procedure and to Butterworth's Personal Injury Litigation Service. She is a contributing editor to 9 Gough Chambers's Clinical Negligence Claims (re-published in 2011). She is also a consulting editor for Medicine, Science and the Law; the Journal of the British Academy of Forensic Sciences.

Clinical Negligence:

Laura's clinical negligence work covers all aspects of clinical negligence from cosmetic and dental surgery to delayed diagnosis of cancer, failure to follow up visual complaints leading to blindness in a diabetic, failure to admit for acute psychosis leading to suicide, failure to diagnose a soft tissue sarcoma leading to above knee amputation of leg, failures associated with substandard performance of gynaecological, rectal and other lower abdominal surgery; failed hip and knee replacements. She also is instructed in wrongful birth claims and claims arising out of hypoxia at birth.

Personal Injury:

On the personal injury front, her case load consists of serious and catastrophic injury work including brain injuries, spinal injuries and other major orthopaedic injuries. She regularly acts for leading trade union firms and has good experience of industrial and employers' liability claims including assault and abuse claims.

She has particular expertise in criminal injuries claims having previously co-authored the main text books in this area of law including Criminal Injuries Compensation Claims. She has obtained 3 maximum £500,000 awards under Tariff claims in the past 6 months and had conduct of 5 substantial pre-tariff cases, and obtained awards in each in excess of £1m over the past year. She is also instructed in judicial review proceedings arising out of these and other claims.
