Tabitha Barran was called to the Bar in 1998 and since that date has developed a thriving practice in the area of family law, focussing in particular on child law; both public and private law cases. Tabitha is known as a fearless yet sensible advocate and is well respected by her opponents. She is energetic , willing and committed on behalf of her clients. She always establishes an easy rapport with those she represents, showing a drive and determination to achieve the best result on behalf of her clients.
In Private Law cases, Tabitha's caseload encompasses all aspects of child arrangements orders, internal relocation and removal from the jurisdiction. Tabitha private law cases also include cases involving serious allegations of sexual abuse and domestic violence.
Tabitha’s Public Child Law caseload is concentrated in the area of care proceedings, many cases involving allegations of non-accidental injury, sexual abuse, emotional abuse and neglect. Tabitha has also appeared in adoption cases and cases involving the placement of children overseas.
In the past year, Tabitha has lectured on the subject of s.20 CA 1989 to the Kent County Council "Child Care Conference 2015" and on preparation for fact finding hearings in non-accidental injury cases.
Future lectures include: public law update webinar for Lexis Nexis (July 2016) and special guardianship orders for the LBLA (October 2016).
Tabitha is keen to develop her practice in Court of Protection work.
Since 1999, Tabitha has been a volunteer advisor in family law at legal advice centres in London.
