9 Gough Chambers prides itself on its serious, professional and long-standing commitment to managing issues of equality and diversity. It has been at the forefront of developing codes and practices and its training model has been adopted by the Bar Council.

9 Gough Chambers is firmly committed to equal opportunities for all and to the avoidance of discrimination on the grounds of race, colour, ethnic or national origin, nationality, citizenship, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, religion or belief. 9 Gough Chambers is also committed to providing a working environment in which all individuals including members of chambers, pupils, mini-pupils and employees are treated with dignity and respect.

It is 9 Gough Chambers’s policy for all members of chambers and all staff to be trained in equality and diversity awareness. A team of equality and diversity officers (“the E&D Team”) is responsible for providing such training and for reviewing the chambers equality and diversity code. The team is also responsible for administering 9 Gough Chambers’s robust grievance procedure.

Our current E&D team members are Helen Pooley, Oliver Millington and Laura Elfield.

As part of our commitment to equal opportunities for all, 9 Gough Chambers publishes updated data on equality and diversity within chambers every one to three years. For our latest data and statistics, please click here
