Settlement has been reached on an Admiralty claim destined for a 4-day High Court trial In February. The claim covered all aspects of maritime claims from service in the Cayman Islands to the status of the jack-up oil rig the claimant was working on. The claim (contested on liability throughout) examined the potential career progression of a Roughneck who had ambitions to progress on the drill floor to the positions of Derrickman through to Driller. Due to injuries sustained in service he was unable to fulfil his ambition. All aspects of the claim were contested from liability, medical causation, and potential earnings. Eventually, shortly before trial, a six-figure settlement was secured following two failed ADR attempts. Johnathan was instructed by Emma Whysall of Thompsons on behalf of the successful claimant.
