The Claimant, when in her 50’s, was struck by a motor car whilst a pedestrian and suffered grievous injuries to her right leg. Attempts to save that leg (including a vein graft harvested from the left leg) failed resulting, ultimately, in an above knee amputation.
Use of prosthetics was hampered by a combination of the amputation being above the knee, continuing pain, a difficult socket fit and a poorly functioning left leg by reason of both the (graft) surgery and also pre-accident changes to the knee in that leg.
The claim settled at a joint settlement meeting shortly before trial for £2.4 million which settlement included provision for sophisticated prosthetics, significant on-going care and the cost of future accommodation needs.
Nicolas Hillier of 9 Gough Chambers acted on behalf of the Claimant.
