Sarah Hunwick represents family of Richard Muzira at the inquest into his death

News | Fri 24th Apr, 2015

Sarah Hunwick represented the family of Richard Muzira at the inquest into his death which found that his death was the result of a road traffic collision.

Richard Muzira was killed on 18 November 2013 after being dragged under the wheels of a tipper truck on Camberwell Road, South London.  Mr Muzira, 61, was originally from Zimbabwe and grew up during Zimbabwe’s War of Liberation.  He spent his teens and early twenties in and out of jail until intervention by the Thatcher government in 1979 which led to the end of white minority rule in the country.  He came to the UK as a refugee and volunteered for a mental health charity prior to his death.  Mr Muzira was the sixth cyclist to be killed in a two week period on London’s road in 2013.

Mr Muzira’s family have called for more to be done to protect cyclists on the road.  His ex-wife Jane Henderson, 57, said “Richard was a safe cyclist, he did not ride at excessive speeds and always respected other road users and the dangers around him.  Despite this he has become another cyclist killed in an area of London that has a history of collisions and fatalities. And while TfL has invested in projects and countermeasure aimed at reducing lorry danger, more needs to be done, as seen by the continuing loss of life.”

Sarah Hunwick is part of the 9 Gough Chambers inquest team and has a busy civil practice.  Sarah was instructed by Paul Kitson of Slater and Gordon.
