Stuart McKechnie QC achieves multi-million settlement on behalf of amputee previously offered £150,000

At a JSM in July 2021 Stuart McKechnie QC negotiated a substantial 7 figure settlement on behalf of a 55-year-old man who underwent an elective through-knee amputation 3 years post-accident.

In the early stages of his case, well before the decision to undergo amputation, the Claimant had been offered £150,000 to settle his claim. At that point, the Claimant chose to instruct new solicitors and Stuart was involved at an early stage to deal with liability issues and an interim payment application (conceded days before the hearing in the High Court). Thereafter Stuart met with the Claimant and his experts in multiple conferences (marshalling the evidence in support of the claim) before carrying out negotiations at the JSM.

The outcome provides security for the Claimant in relation to all of his future needs, including single level adapted accommodation, cutting edge prosthetics, care needs across his lifetime and loss of earnings. It also shows the benefit of instructing an experienced specialist legal team in complex cases of this type.
